Swimming lessons

The boys took swimming lessons a few weeks ago and it was so much fun watching them learn and make progress with their skills. The class was only for 4 days and it was amazing how much they advanced. I was very impressed with the teacher...she pushed them hard and expected a lot from them...and she got results.

Carson was excited to go and did a great job. He started swimming by himself this winter when we were at a pool, so he just kept practicing and he started learning to swimming with his face in the water to go faster.

Cooper was excited about lessons also and after the first day when I asked if he had fun he said "that was awesome." By the second and third day "awesome" was not the word he would have used to describe it. He did have fun and he never said he didn't want to go, but there were some tears and high pitched screaming.
The teacher talked to them about swimming with their face in the water and then she would hold their stomach to help them get started and then she let go and let them try. Cooper would frantically wave his arms and legs and slowly sink farther and farther and then she would grab him and hold him and tell him what a great job he had done. Then he would climb up the ladder and stand on the side of the pool SCREAMING and crying. When it was his turn next he would slide back farther so the teacher couldn't lift him into the pool. He would say he didn't want to do it, but she would take him out there and do it again and again...

...and this is what happened by the end of the week. She said Cooper was her success story from this class (out of 7 kids total). I was very proud of him for sticking with it and doing so well.

They both did a great job and it will be fun helping them practice what they learned this summer in the lake!
